When i add wordart or a background to a slide, the background doesnt change
and the wordart shows in black and white. if you view the presentationin full
screen, the colors work. how do i fix this??

Are you working in High Contrast mode? That's a Windows setting. It's in
your Windows Control Panel under Accessibility Options.
