I have several menu items related to audio, and I'd like to group them
under a single topic. How do I create some entry to move them to?

Just create a new folder, then put the shortcuts into it.

The Start Menu folders are found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Start Menu\Programs

So dig down into the folders above and create a folder? I thought there
was some way to right-click and the Start menu. That sure wasn't working.

That works in a way. If you open the start menu --> All programs and
right-click on an existing *folder* under "All Programs - you can explore
(sometimes either the word "Explore" alone and sometimes the words "Explore
All Users" and sometimes both. Depends on where the folder is located, if
it is in bother places) that folder and the structure under either your user
account's start menu ("%userprofile%\Start Menu") or the All User's start
menu ("%AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu") and then do as suggested and organize
your start menu into folders of your liking.
