Collect only the new mail, not the old.

I've started using Outlook 2003 but it collects all the mail on the server,
including the mail that has already been collected, so I get multiple copies
of everything. How to I set it up to collect only the new, unread mail, mark
it as read, and leave it on the server?

I've been doing this just fine, for years, using Eudora, but it's not
supported any more. Now I've got a new computer and installed Outlook 2003
and I want to collect just the new mail.

If you started of with a clean installation, then all the mails are being
downloaded again as there is no longer a record of what has been downloaded
and what not.

Some mail accounts allow you to set from which date your mail client can
download emails. Other workarounds are posted here;

Thanks, I used your workaround but haven't really solved the problem. I have
to open the server every time I collect my mail and move all the old messages
to an alternative folder.

I'm having other problems with Outlook 2003. When I send mail it displays a
dialogue box saying I should run "Detect and repair". Also there doesn't seem
to be a way to queue messages for sending. It just sends them immediately.

I'm wondering if I'd be better off using Windows Mail, or Windows Live Mail,
because both of these come as standard with Vista and are more up to date
than Outlook 2003.

You should use the program that meets your needs the best. It may be Mail
or Live mail or Outlook.

Did you run Detect and Repair?

Disable Send Immediately: tools, options, mail setup tab.
