I have Windows Essentials Codec Pack installed, and I notice that whenever I
do ANYTHING with video files, either the DiVXX logo appears in the taskbar,
or the FFDShow logo appears. All of my video programs came with their own
codecs, and I normally use MPEG-4 (for my iPod), AVI, MPEG, and WMV formats
for making movies... while I was still able... and most of my movies were
originally in the MPEG-1 or -2 format as well as the .MOV format for use with
QuickTime. I've had no real problems untill I installed Nero 7 Essentials
that was bundled with my new HP 1040i DVD Writer, where ANY video file that I
work with causes all of my video editing/burning software to crash. What
gives??? :-(

Nero software isnt needed in xp,it probably creates more problems/conflicts
in the OS than its worth...Also,youre "HP" dvd writer isnt hp,its probably
liteonit (mfg). All liteonit cdrw/dvdrw or roms all have firmware updates at
the liteonit.com web site.Get the update...

Well... the BOX says HP. and the drive itself says HP, but I DID go on the
Liteonit site and saw NO TRACES of my product! Also, the HP site gives only a
reason as to why the 1040i designation magically "switched" to 1040d... and
that's all!!! Furthermore, I have two (2) drivers that are not digitally
signed. They are:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\GEARAspiWDM.sys

and

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\PxHelp20.sys LITE-ON

If my writer is indeed, a LITEON product, then I am having a difficult time
trying to find it on their website! I've even tried to "update" my drivers,
but Windows "cannot find a better match"! The drive will read and will burn
CD's extremely fast... but when it comes to making DVD's... with ANY software
that I have installed... it falls flat!!!

This really sucks! I've re-installed the Nero Software that it came with,
and had NO PROBLEMS with it, nor with my other DVD Writer (HP DVD Writer
200j) that came with my computer. There just doesn't seem to be much (if ANY)
support for this drive. I am crushed!!!
