Hi everyone,

What is the purpose of the 'code page conversion tables' listed in
regional options? I'm aware that a code page is simply the assigning of
integers to characters (but does not specify how those integers are to
be stored in memory). I notice that UTF-8 is in the list, which is a
character encoding.

What is the purpose of these tables, and how are they used? How are
characters stored in windows? How are characters stored in Office
documents? I've read that Windows often uses the Windows 1252 encoding
(or is this a code page?), but I've also been told that Windows uses
UTF-16 internally.
