I have this problem and I have just installed the
drivers for my onboard sound card I have copied and pasted
the following information to hopefully help you to assist
me in this matter..

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Location: PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5

Manufacturer: SigmaTel

Device Type: Sound, video and game controllers

Device Properties
Driver Description: Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller -
StmaTel Codec

Driver Date 03/09/2001
Driver Version 5.10.0.7121

INF File oem5.inf

First try installing the latest Windows XP service pack as
described in knowledge base article 310772.

I am running windows 2000 and have applied SP4 to my
machine via Windows Update...
