hard ware manager see's the drive.
yellow mark and code 43 and sometimes code 10

Hi,

The driver for the Firewire may not be properly installed.
First, unplug the ext.HDD from the Firewire port.
Go to device manager and check is there any yellow! mark or red X on the Firewire device.
If yes, right click and uninstall the firewire device then reboot.
After reboot, the find new hardware should appear and install the driver for the Firewire device (asumming you have installed SP1 or Sp1a on XP)

If you have not yet installed SP1, install it now from windows update site.
After installed Sp1, go to device manager again to ascertain the driver is properly installed for the Firewire device.
If yellow! mark is still existed, click the driver tab and click update drivers and let windows search for it.

Hope it helps.

Peter
