I have recently rebuilt my pc with XP prof and downloaded all windows
updates. My problem is that now I cannot use command to run a dos prompt only
cmd. I understand the differences and reasons behind the differences but
some software (IPOD updater) wants to use command not cmd. How can I get
'command' back.

Open the Command Prompt and type: CD \ , and hit enter.
( Note the space between CD and the \ ).

Command-line reference A-Z

command is command.com. command.com should be located in >>
C:\WINDOWS\system32

This should open command.com
Start | Run | Type: command | OK

If for some reason that doesn't work, locate command.com in
C:\WINDOWS\system32 and send a shortcut to your Desktop.
Run it from there.

Start | Run | Type: cmd | OK
opens cmd.exe.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

In a command prompt the space is not required. Start Run requires spaces but cmd doesn't as long as their is a delimiter (the \ in this case).
