cmd.exe runs out of memory

I need to run a make file that runs old 16 bit 8051 assembler tools.
The program is built fine in windows98, but I can't get cmd.exe to
build it. The assembler says that it runs out of memory. On both
machines I'm running a unix emulation shell (mks sh.exe). How can I
get cmd.exe to do the build? It is inconvenient to have to build it on
a different machine.

Have you tried it using command.com?

Yes, I tried command.com. Same problerm.

I figured but that was Microsoft's suggestion. I have a similar problem with Microsoft QBasic. And the article I read on getting 16-bit apps to run correctly in Windows 2000 that was the suggestion.
