Is it possible to create a cluster using an external USB or Firewire Hard
Drive - even just for testing? Thanks.

Do you mean a cluster or a RAID setup?

You would need seperate servers to create a cluster - or you could use
Microsoft's Virtual Server to run several servers on the same hardware.

If you mean a RAID setup - then yes, you should be able to 'cluster' the
drives into a RAID array. Three drives would be needed for RAID 5 or you
could mirror two drives for a RAID 1 array. Obviously you would only
want to do this for testing or for a non-critical system.

No. You need shared storage. I have yet to come across a USB or Firewire HDD
with two connections. If you have such a device and you can mount the drive
on two box's, then I take the "no" back.

If you want to practice/test, I'd suggest you download the virutal server
trial from MS as it supports virtual shared storage so you can make clusters
with it.
