I have WinXP with the service pack 2

I have a problem with closing my computer ....... I'm getting the message
: fermeture de windows ( closing windows in french) ....and nothing else
....it will simply stay there for ever until .....I shutdowm manually my
computer.

This is a problem a got since at least one month but didnt go further in the
investigation..... lack of knoledge in computer ; (( But know I'm
trying to restore my pc from another date (in october) and it wont work
because I'm not able to close Windows properly.

I went into evenviewer to see the message corresponding to the event and
this is the message:

(sorry it's in french....).

Le périphérique \Device\Hardisk0\D comporte un bloc défectueux. event ID # 7

it seems that ia have a defect bloc on my harddisk !

Thanks in advance for your advices......

Could try a chkdsk
Right-click drive in "My Computer" > Properties > Tools > (Error-checking)
Check now > .. (Tick both boxes)...

or this may help 'Uphclean'

Both good suggestions but I'd like to add: chkdsk /r . without the flag
it'll simply report problems and not fix them. chkdsk /? will give you all
the possible flags.
