Perhaps this is a roundabout way to do this, nevertheless here goes the
question:

I do not receive mails on my blackberry if my outlook is open (sidebar: why
is that?). so, I want some way to automatically close my outlook if the
computer is idle for x minutes.. so that if I leave my desk and get stuck in
a meeting, the outlook will close and mails will get to my blackberry.

How to?

No, not natively via either the OS or outlook. You could probably write a
windows script to close it - not sure if you can pick up the same idle info
the screensaver uses with wsh. Are you using POP3 or Exchange server
account?

Regarding your sidebar question: Is your Outlook configured to deliver mail
to your Exchange mailbox or to personal folders? Are you using Blackberry
Enterprise Server?
