Somehow I opened two instances of my active mail folder. Why Outlook doesn't
automatically handle this so you can't open two copies of the same folder
escapes me. But now I can't close the second one because it's my active mail
folder. Is there an easy way to do this?

This happens when you have a damaged mail profile.

You can try this free tool;
http://addins.howto-outlook.com/codetwo_ghostbuster

Otherwise you'll have to recreate your mail profile as per;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

Thanks Roady. I was leery about using MS's repair tool since I'd had poor
results using it in the past (not sure whether this would even have been an
option in this case). Certainly would help if MS itself would include tools
like this in their products especially since, at least for me, this has
happened before and if there are repetitive problems like this then that
suggests to me that there should be a corresponding tool/solution to address
it.

Thank heavens for forums like this where folks like you can bring your
expertise to bear on problems that I believe MS should bundle into their
products.

Thanks again. The ghost tool worked perfectly.
