Cloning A Hard Drive

I have cloned hard drives in Windows 98 and previously in Windows 95 with
versions of Power Quest Drive Copy and/or Drive Image. Recently while trying
to copy XP Home from a 10 gig to a 30 gig drive with Drive Image 7 I
finished with both drives unbootable. The drives were both set as master
with the new 30 gig on the secondary IDE. Are there specific IDE
master/slave primary/secondary requirements for cloning a hard drive with
XP?
Thanks,
Rick Hanson

NO! There are only the "master/slave" settings for the IDE channels.

You must "clone" the complete drive, not just the partition.

When you finished cloning the drive, you MUST disconnect the old drive in
order for XP not to get confused since there are two booting drives.

try this... boot up the system with the xp cd, and select
the option for recovery console (R - do NOT hit F2 at the
beginning). Once logged on to the drive, type in "fixboot
c:" follow the prompts - for more information on the
recovery console in windows xp, see

So what you are saying is disconnect the old drive and change the jumper
on the new drive to master before the initial reboot?
Thanks,
Rick
