After leaving this printer unused for a year it's print head
is really bunged up - not surprisingly. Countless cleaning cycles
haven't shifted it. Any ideas before I resort to calling Epson?

Get a cleaning cart, give a couple of flushes and leave in sit
overnight, giving another couple of flushes the next day and with ne
ink tanks give another couple of flushes and see what happens

To be fair not using ANY printer for 12 months would easily cause thi

My 11 year old daughter's C-84 sat just that way for a year, unused and
it's exactly in the position as yours. I would certainly get in touch with
Art, as he is a master technician in the undoing of clogs on Epsons and many
other printers as well.
However, at this juncture I'm acquiring my own painful history of C-84
clogging experience, as I have five other C-84s at school in your condition,
even though they've been used over the two years we've had them. One other
C-84 is running fine, but the teacher uses hers everyday.
The Epson Dura-brite inks that are used in them are formulated to dry very
fast. Apparently too fast and thus clog the jets and tubing even when they
shouldn't, if not used more reguilarly than most printers. What's more is
that undoing a clog in them is akin to a small miracle. I have run cleaning
cycles, new ink cartridges, intravenous cleaning solution, bottom head
cleans, and nothing has worked. Art may have a possible wonder method to
allow unclogging though. I'd be anxious to hear if you have success.

TRY A CANON IP5200 AND US OEM INK

CALL CANON AND ORDER A NEW IP5200 AND USE OEM INK

I have to swear by the SSG Utility: http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Twice it has cleared nozzles I couldn't manage with Windex squirts down the
stem coupled with Epson OEM cleaning cycles.

The "powerful" cleaning cycle of the SSG utility did the trick--twice! It
worked on my old SP 750 and it worked on my C86.
