Clipboard pasting 'old' data

I have Windows XP Pro with SP3. Every so often cut-and-paste stops working.

I have started the clipboard viewr=er (using clipbrd from the 'Run' command)

When this is happening, if I highlight something and press Ctrl-C (or select
Copy) the stuff that I had highlighted is displayed in the clipboard viewer,
but when I press Ctrl-V (or Paste) the last data that was successfully pasted
gets pasted again.

Eg. Steps might be:
1. Highlight CAT, press Ctrl -C -> CAT appears in viewer
2. Go to other app, press Vtrl-V -> CAT is pasted
3. Back to 1st app, highlight DOG, press Ctrl-C -> DOG appears in viewer
4. Go to other app, press Ctrl-V -> CAT is pasted.

I usually log out, then log back in again and it seems to fix itself.

Any help appreciated.

From what I've read, I believe that is related to MS Office settings for
its clipboard. You might ask in an Office ng.

A Google search:

The clipboard is not pasting the old contents, it's the application.
The contents of the clipboard have obviously changed, but the
other app is repasting what's in its buffer. The clipboard can
only hold one image at a time.
