hey I used to be able to take VB6 code and paste it into a HTML page
and it would run on the clientside

does anyone know if this is possible in VB 2005?

Thanks

I think that it is a disgrace that Microsoft 'took a dive' by killing
clientside vbScript.

Microsoft had the marketshare, the tools and the cash to make vbScript
the default language for clientside scripts on any browser.

why did Microsoft 'take a dive' and throw the game?

they saw a measly company with a 3 billion market cap; and then they
bent over and took it up the ass

they SURRENDERED without a good fight.

vbScript is not the problem with web security.

Probably because Javascript was already entrenched.

In anycase, VBScript is still available if you WANT to use it ...

..NET has new tools - such as WinForms controls Hosted in IE. However,
you'll have to jump through several security hoops to get it to work.

My suggestion is taht you build a web application (ASP.NET +
Javascript/AJAX) or build a rich/smart client application and deploy it via
ClickOnce or a similar technology.

well dude I saw it in MS press book that said it wasn't available for
clientside scripting.

do you want a specific quote from the book?

I just want to be able to programmatically create spreadsheets on the
clientside... and I don't care if javascript can do it.

it doesn't make sense to run vb on the server and vba on the desktop
and javascript in between them.

javascript is not 'entrenched'

IE is entrenched and it has an 85% marketshare?

why did MS take a dive and give creedence to a baby company with a 4
billion market cap?

I mean; AMD could buy Sun LoL

I will find the reference and post it.

if a MS press book has been WRONG; I expect MS to mail me a correct
edition of the book

thanks

I could give a crap about what .NET has

if Microsoft keeps on 'caving in without a fight' it's not going to
matter what MS has.

pretty soon they'll change from Windows to Linux and Mac
compatability-- because they don't have the balls to fight the good
fight.

>From where I'm standing clientside vbScript ran a _LOT_ faster than

clientside javascript; more importantly; it was a consistent langauge
from backend to frontend to middle tier

now they don't have anything similiar

if they would have told me back in business school that I would need
to know '4 programming languages in order to get anything done' I
never would have gone into computers

Javascript is... It has been the defacto scripting language since Mosaic or
Netscape Navigator.

Javascript is also standardized as EMCAscript.

look kid, Navigator was the defacto browser for a couple of years; and
it has been ten years since that has been true

and firefox is NOT going to win the war
and opera is NOT going to win the war

and FIREFOX AND OPERA CANNOT RUN ACTIVEX?

so if I am _STUCK_ with Internet Explorer; since I must use Office Web
Components; then what practical choice do I have.. the SAME language
for all tiers or FOUR DIFFERENT LANGUAGES?

especially for intranet development, uh especially for large
corporations.

MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE BROWSER WAR
MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE BROWSER WAR
MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE BROWSER WAR
MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE BROWSER WAR

MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE DESKTOP WAR
MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE DESKTOP WAR
MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE DESKTOP WAR
MS GIVES UP ON VBSCRIPT AND THEY LOSE THE DESKTOP WAR

if javascript was as easy to write as vbScript; and ActiveX was
irrelevent; then we all would have Linux Desktops, now wouldn't we??

Have you ever seen Office Web Components combined with Analysis
Services?

Why don't you STFU until you have some clue; ok?

I've sold OWC Intranets a half dozen times; and I'm never going to
rewrite jack **** to .NET or JavaScript; because DOTNOT does NOT have
comparable functionality to Office Web Components
