Hi,

I have an office of 73 computers running xp pro and a few
still win 98.

After they log onto the new domain, all their shares work
great, everything is smooth for about an hour or so.
Then their shares to the server go crap, and if you type
\\servername\folder you get a user name and pass logon
box, if they enter the same as they logon with it says it
has already been tried or cannot contact domain
controller.

If they log completely out of domain and back in it works
for a little while till it kicks them, it is like server
has alsheimers.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Check the ipconfig/all. Does everything point to the server-IP? Do you have
WINS-server installed? W98 still needs that. Also options 044 and 046 (0x8)
in DHCP-server, Scope options.

Well they are getting dhcp from the router we have, seems
to be working fine.

the ipconfig /all just shows the domain.com and it is
right the other info seems fine. hmm WINS, well haven't
had that configured. Not ven completely sure how, was a
Linux network before, and worked super without it.

You need WINS. And let the server do the DHCP-serving, because it can push
out all the necessary setting for DNS and WINS automatically to the clients.

Not sure whether it is relevant, but you mentioned 98
machines, I had similar problem, and the following KB
articles were relevant

297684
138365

I found that all my 98 machines were disconnecting after
15 odd minutes. Logging back in would solve problem.

Hope this helps.
