You didn't say what you want to scan for, but if you want to "scan and
identify" the hardware on your computer, try Belarc Advisor. It examines and
identifies all of the hardware.

I think it is highly unlikely that any of the hardware other than the hard
drive can be "infected." I have heard of BIOS viruses that cause pemanent
damage to the BIOS chip, requiring replacement. i don't know of any way to
"scan" for this however. RAM would dump any infection when the power is off
during shut down. I don't think any of the other devices are capable of being
"infected".

Why didn't you say so in the first place, insead of making us all
assume things that you didn't mean? First you were talking about
scanning hardware, now you're talking about scanning registries.
What exactly is it you want?

The only parts of another computer you have access to across the
network are disk files. You don't have direct access to their
hardware.

Most anti-virus programs that can scan other computers on the LAN
will scan the registry, also. You generally have to pay for
"corporate" versions for that capability. The free or "home"
versions are generally restricted to the local machine. Seems to me,
though, that a remote scan will be highly likely to miss the more
deeply embedded malware, such as rootkits.

Here's one that I found by searching on Google. I have no experience
with it:
