I am using my desktop and laptop in a domain environment where the My
Documents folder is redirected to the Domain controller.
When I boot either of the machines my disk activity goes to 100% and stays
there for a long time. Using task manager and Resource Monitor, I have
identified the culprit as the Offline Files process, syncing with the domain
controller.
It shows up as using Normal IO priority in the Resource Monitor, so the
machine is SLOOOW while this is happening - especially the laptop is useless
while syncing.
I have now gone as far as disabling this service and will resort to manually
forcing syncing with the server - I had high hopes for Vista's IO
Prioritization, but it seems too much background tasks still use normal
priority (SearchIndexer is one of them!).
Is there ANY way to force a lower priority for the IO of these services?
