Had local network working fine on all computers for a few years.
Today, one computer (XP home) is failing somehow. Symptoms are that
access to Internet through router works fine. File sharing to that computer
from others on network is fine. File sharing from that computer to another
doesn't work. Tried to uninstall and then reinstall "client for Microsoft
networks"
but this gives an error message that the install failed. Tried five different
restore points, all failed to restore.
Seems like something got messed up in the networking. Any hints on how
to find the right files on the XP install disks to make things right again? Or,
any other hints? I've searched the knowledge base and tried a few things
that seemed to be somewhat related, but no luck so far.
System is a Dell 2.4 GHz, 512M RAM, two IDE HDs, two IDE DVDs,
floppy, etc. No recent hardware changes or additions. No recent software
installs except for a new mouse driver a week or so ago.
Any suggestions appreciated.
