Running XP SP2 and latest IE6. When I click a link to .txt file on a webpage,
instead of launching notepad, it launches another application on my system
which is not remotely related to word processing (RUMBA) and crashes IE. My
file associations are correct as they point to Notepad. Won't do it from IE6.

Open Windows Explorer.
Click Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Make sure TXT files are associated with Notepad.

Right-click on a TXT file already saved to your HDD > Open with > select
Notepad and check the "Always open with" box.

I'm having a similar issue where links to txt files are opening up in IE
instead of notepad. Normally, this wouldn't be bad, but the line breaks and
tab spacing seem to disappear in IE.

Ex. in notepad:
[System Summary]

Item Value
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation

Ex. in IE:
[System Summary] Item Value OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft
Corporation

Viewing machine is Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
Build 2600

I tried PA Bears sugegstion to no avail. I'm having the same problem on all
of my SP2 machines.
