Cleartype and password character corruption

Has anyone noticed that cleartype corrupts the password character (big dot).
It's not completely round -- flat on the top, and pointy on the bottom. This
doesn't happen on initial login (after a cold startup), only after a login
from a locked/suspended/hibernated machine. It's not a big deal, just
annoying. Anyone know of a solution (besides turning off cleartype, which
does fix the problem)?

I see this problem in XP but not Vista.

Are you using the Clear Type tool or just turning it off and on? The
tool will let you make clear type more or less strong. Get it at

Yes, I'm using the cleartype powertoy, and I did try various settings (at
both ends of the scale) and it did not help.
