I'm converting old documents that have been editied many times to word 2003.
In some cases I have noticed that after converting the converted document
doesn't act right - functions like automatic numbering get stuck and will not
reset. Is there any way to clear "ALL" embeded codes? The Clear Formatting
option in styles does not seem to do the job. So far the only way I have
been able to do this is to delete the troublesome paragraph and retype.

Word doesn't use "embedded codes." However, you can probably accomplish your
aim by selecting everything (Ctrl+A), copying it to the clipboard (Ctrl+C),
then choosing Edit - Paste Special - Unformatted text.
