I just cleaned the internal components of my computer and I want to know,
what should I use to clean/Wipe the power supply case and the entire computer
case?


I just installed a second HD into my computer and attatched the IDE cable.
Is this normal?: I heard a slight scraping noise as I inserted the HD into
the bay.
The problem is that the power cable is too short and couldn't plug it in.
Is there a way to extend the power cord? It's only about <5cm too short.
I have a eMachines tower/desktop case by the way.


Just some concern questions. I was sweating alot since it was warm in the
room.
I had to wipe my sweat often. And I touched the power supply case every time
I wiped my sweat, sometime one hand, other times both hands, for a few
seconds, to ground myself. I handled the HDs by the edges. Is it possible
that I have damaged the HD by static or sweat? How do I know if I did damage
the HD? It's working right now.

Radio Shack or similar will have an extension cable you can use for the
power and non-conducting cleaning solution for the electrical/electronic
components. They should also have a can of ompressed air you use to blow out
the dustballs, etc. If you feel you must wipe things down then use a static
and lint free cloth.

The scraping noise is not importatnt. The bay probably had never been used
and the drive was tight during the install.

Most harddrives come in sealed cases, usually with the electronics exposed
on the bottom. If you did not cause a static discharge problem or moisture
residue issue during the installation and it's running now then you're fine.
(If you want sweat problems then work on the avionics systems of F-4
fighters in Thailand and Viet-Nam during the monsoon season. I did.)

Next time remove the heat and stress factors.
Get a proper anti static wrist strap.
If you are going to do this a lot, get an anti static mat.

In my earlier days with computers I used to stress out that I would do
things wrong as you seem to. Relax, take your time, plan it out, see how
things are going to fit before you try to fit them, give your self ample
room, don't rush, don't let others lean over you (thats really bad from a
static perspective , don't wear synthetics, don't work on synthetic
carpet.

If you follow these simple guides and ask your self before you start: Am I
doing everything right? The answer should be Yes to the point where if you
did touch a circuit in the wrong place, you would be doing it in a safe
manner - I always avoid touching anything but the edges anyway, so take it
easy.

I recommend a cotton T Shirt, Jeans, and bare feet while doing this type of
work!
