On the host that my website uses there are the following directories:
_BORDERS, _DERIVED, _FPCLASS, _OVERLAY, _PRIVATE, _THEMES, _VTI_CNF
and there are also the SAME directories but with lower-case names.

Are both sets used? If not, which set can I safely delete?

On the FP2003 version on the development workstation I just have
_BORDERS, _FPCLASS, _OVERLAY, _THEMES, _private (in lower-case).

Can I safely clean up this situation?

Thanks,

You shouldn't touch these folders; they *should* normally be hidden
folders - they are related to the FP server extensions, so if you use the
FPSE, you will need those folders.

If you use Shared Borders you'll need the _borders folder, if you use themes
the _themes folder is required etc.

They are there for a reason; (even if they *appear* to be duplicate
directories).
