cleancategories switch not working

When I run Outlook 2007 with various switches (cleanrules, resetnavpane,
resetsharedfolders) the switch works as expected. But when I run Outlook
with the cleancategories switch, it does not reset the categories as
expected. Anyone run into this with this particular switch?

And, are there any local components that are involved in the running of this
switch? I ask because OL is the only 2007 app. Rest of Office suite on the
machines is 2003.

Thanks

Works here as it should. How do you realize that the categories aren't
resetted?

When the OL client launches, it has the custom categories that existed
previously (before running the exe with that switch).

Are you connected to an Exchange Server? If so, do you have the permission
to change the categories?

Yes (Exchange 2007) and yes, I have previously customized the category list.

If you remove a category manually, is it also back when you restart Outlook?
Just to make this clear, the switch doesn't delete assinged categories from
items but only the ones from the master category list.

If I delete a category manually, it remains deleted when I restart Outlook.
And, yes, I understand that items previously assigned a category remain
categorized even if I delete the category from the master list.

I don't know why the switch isn't working for you. With a tool like
OutlookSpy (ww.dimastr.com) you can remove the Master Category List
yourself. It's a hidden message in the default calendar called
'IPM.Configuration.CategoryList'. If you delete that message, Outlook will
show the default list at the next startup.
