My Dell 8300 was delivered in June 2004 with XP SP1 - I have an OEM CD - a
full version installation CD - not a restore CD.

I have ordered the XP SP2 CD.

After I format my HDD and XP SP1 is loaded - what comes next?? Do I load
the SP2 CD or load the Chipset Software Installation Utility??

Intel says that the Chipset Software Installation Utility must be the FIRST
thing done after the OS is installled. However XP SP2 has more embedded
stuff than the older SP1 came with.

It is obvious that SP2 can be implemented as the last step but since I have
the CD are my steps altered??

thanks
kevin

Since you have a full version CD and a SP2 CD, and (presumably, since you
posted this message) access to a PC right now.... I would make a slipstream
so that you need only do one clean install and will end up with Windows XP
with SP2.

thank you for your recommendation and link on combining the two installs
though to be honest, I will probably stick with two separate installs
because I would not use this tool but once per year.

What I am really interested in is where should the Chipset Software
Installation Utility be placed in the installation process - before or after
XP SP2???

I don't know what XP SP2 does in relation to Chipset Software Installation
Utility.

thanks
kevin

Setup will ask for it.
