I am about to do a clean install of XP Pro. Is it necessary to install
SP1 before installing SP2?
I am assuming it is better to install all SPs necessary before running
Window's Update the first time.

Thanks.

SP2 includes all of SP1. Thus, there is no need to consider SP1 again.

You are quite correct. Install SP2 before bothering with the fixes since
then. In fact Microsoft Update may require SP2 before it will download
anything.

You do not need to install SP1 before SP2, and you are correct, install
Windows, Install SP2, then run Windows update.
