I have been running Vista Ultimate for 4-5 months. I just recently started
to receive the pop-up error message 'Class Not Registered' when trying to
open the Vista Device Manager. When I close the panel, nothing else happens
-- i.e., Device Manager doesn't launch. I see from a few other posts (not on
this site) that others have experienced this problem, but no resolution was
provided. Can anyone help?

Have you tried typing devmgmt.msc in the Start - Search Area and trying to
open from there?

Have you been using a 3rd party Registry Cleaner? You may of deleted an
important registry key that's preventing you from accessing Device Manager.
If so do you think you may have a back up of the registry before you cleaned
it?

I'm not sure if this will help as it refers to XP:

Maybe someone could look and see if it would work with Vista. Or maybe
someone knows of the equivalent .reg file for Vista.

No. Running devmgmt.msc in the Start - Search Area results in the same error.

Actually. I did just recently run a Registry Cleaner -- the Microsoft
OneCare product from Microsoft's Website. Not sure whether the problem
existed prior to running Microsoft's Registry Cleaner, but it did clean up a
number of items. I'll run it again and see if it fixes the problem.
