ClamWin was being sold for a small amount on eBay.
Updates are free for life.
Is this a good product, like AVG for example? If so, it's a great deal.

It has flaws compared to the mainstream av products. Clamav
was designed for email server scanning, and someone made the mistake
of porting it to Windows. It doesn't have a realtime scanner ... you
must use it strictly on-demand.

Doesn't surprise me that it's freeware. The same guy sells OpenOffice for a
small charge!

It is an "On Demand" only scanner so use it in conjunction with another AV packages that
does "On Access" and "On Demand" scanning.

ClamWin isn't but some others are. For example Bit Defender offers
a free for personal use av scanner that's strictly on-demand but
definitely worthwhile. The free eScan from Microworld uses the
Kaspersky scan engine, and it's definitely worthwhile even though
the free version doesn't have a clean/delete capability. DOS av
scanners are, of course, on-demand only, and some of them are
definitely worthwhile. I've always used on-demand av only. I don't
like or need "underfootware"

I only use on demand and have the others... Always looking for new
things worthy of time and space...

I don't see what your problem is. Although a lot of people now have
connections capable of downloading large files quickly, there are
still some who don't and who might prefer to install packages like
this from a cd or dvd. Making a small charge for redistributing stuff
on cd's has been commonplace for many years.

I have no gripe with people selling large freeware programs on a CD for
a small fee, so long as the author of the freeware does not have a
gripe. I'm on dial up and downloading some freeware can take hours.

There is even some company that allows either downloading freeware, or
sells a copy of that freeware on a CD for a small charge. (I just went
to Tucows to see if they were the one I was thinking of, and it's still
downloading. Great advertising, eh?)
