We need to provide use of our dB to field sales people via the net.

We do not want to have to maintain both...
- Access Front End for internal use
- ASP code for web use

I hear Access and Microsoft Terminal Services is not a good mix.

Anyone know how Citrix Terminal Server works (or will it work) for
providing internet use of our Access data base to field sales people?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Mel

Access and TS work together just fine.

That too will work just fine. Note that Citrix, or at least it did, require you to
use a .CMD file to start the application. All you need to do is to create a one
liner.

I specifically created the Auto FE Updater utility so that I could make changes to
the FE MDE as often as I wanted and be quite confident that the next time someone
went to run the app that it would pull in the latest version. For more info on the
errors or the Auto FE Updater utility see the free Auto FE Updater utility at
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/autofe.htm at my website to keep the FE on each PC up
to date.

In a Terminal Server or Citrix environment the Auto FE Updater now supports creating
a directory named after the user on a server. Given a choice put the FE on the
Citrix server to reduce network traffic and to avoid having to load objects over the
network which can be somewhat sluggish.

Windows Terminal Server is based on technology licensed from Citrix.
So, Terminal Server and Citrix is THE SAME THING. The only
difference is that Citrix offers additional features that Windows
Terminal Server lacks.

I have many, many apps deployed under Windows Terminal Server and
one under Citrix. They all work the same.

Try Windows Terminal Server before spending the money on Citrix. It
may be sufficient to your users' needs.

How many simultaneous users do you expect? A pretty capable server will support
around 50 without much trouble. There are also some licensing issues. All
users need a license to connect and a license to run Access (unless the server
uses the runtime).
