How to chose which update to install

Some updates just won't install. I'm tired of being pestered to install them.
How can I check off the update so it won't keep trying to install.
I used to be able to do it in 'custom' install. But that feature doesn't
seem to be there any more.
Thanks

If they are critical updates, you really DO want to install them. This
generally isn't too hard--and it will eliminate the pestering.

Can you give us a list?

This really isn't the right forum for this--probably one related to Windows
Update would be preferable, but let's see your list.

Are we talking about Windows XP? One possibility--perhaps not the best, but
a possible choice--is that Service Pack 3 for XP will be out soon. It is
possible that this includes the patches that are causing a problem and the
service pack might manage to get them in even when AU or WU is failing on
the individual patches.
