I have vista home premium, 4GB Ram and an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT video card
and over 300GB of free hard drive space. My problem is that whenever I watch
a movie or a bunch of internet news videos or youtube stuff, all of a sudden
I start getting choppy audio. This happens whether it comes from a video or
streaming music from the internet. I have a broadband DSl connection. If I
reboot the system and then go back to whatever my video or audio source was
then it works just fine.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening and how I can get my
system to work without interruption without having to reboot the system?

Before you watch a movie, Doesn't hurt to try

Run in safe mode.

Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content, then also go to

Start and Run and type
%temp%
and clear that fºlder. (Use % at the beginning and at the end)

Also go to Start and Run and type
%windir%\temp

Reboot

It seems there is a software confliction on your system while that happens.
Maybe there is a third party software that is running some network
connection tasks which interrupts the connection of your media player. You
can check to see whether there is a antivirus software which needs to update
its data with the server on a schedule or anything which may need to run
some refreshment with a server on the Internet. Besides that, maybe you will
like to keep the related drivers and all patches updated on your machine.
Sometimes if you drag the process bar of the movie often, some earlier media
program may crash too.

You can create a memory dump file to see what is running at the moment while
the issue happens. The information on the following links gives some clue
about how to create them manually by pressing a combination of keys and how
to read those dump files.
