Choppy Sound from CD Audio Disks on BTC DVD1004IM

Just installed a replacement BTD DVD1004IM DVDRW drive - the previous one
failed to recognise DVDs. The new one is fine with CD data disks, DVD-R, DVD
movies etc, but when playing a CD audio disk, the sound keeps stalling or
jumping. Via properties, I have disabled "digital CD audio" as Help
suggested, however the problem persists.
