How to choose your Mpeg2 decoder renderer ?

I have maybe five mpeg2 renderes installed. And i have my pc connected
to my TV. And i just want to try each one out on my Mprg2 files to see
what looks the best.

I used a program called DECCHECK to chnage this in the past. But it
seems to to be working as its onyl showing one. And i have MORE than
one installed i have the Nvida Decoder and 4 DVD Software players
installed all with their own decoders. But is just shows its
compatible with MCe Mpeg2DecFilter and its says its not compatible
with Media Player 10 which i have. But i can play Mpeg2 file son MP10
just fine ??

I have no idea whats up.

IS their anothe rprogram that i can use to select what Decoder i can
use for different types of files ?

Thanks.

/PS i have Xp Pro.

Not all players/capture apps install their "codecs" as "filters" so that
other software can use them.

You might want to try using "Graphedit" to see what is being
used for each type of file. ( Just drop a media file on Graphedit
and it will try and render it using the filters/codec that have the
highest merit and work with that file type.) The distribution of
Graphedit that I have included SysEnun.exe which can list the
installed files.

You could use Graphedit to find what is being used as you
install and uninstall the dlls/filters using regsvr32. This from a
readfile in the Graphedit distro:

"Sysenum is a tool that helps you unregister troublesome
directshow codecs.

To do this, run GraphEdit, then render a media file that uses the
troublesome codec. This tells you the codec's human-readable
name. (E.g. "Mediamatics MPEG-2 Splitter")

Then, run SysEnum, go to the "DirectShow Filters" section, scroll
in the list at right till you find the codec's name, click on it, and
down at the bottom of the window the filename shows up. Now
you can "regsvr32 /u" it."

So you could do the following (while keeping some notes)

Run "SysEnum" and make a list of the decoders (in this case)
and the file names.

Render a file and do as the readfile describes to remove the
current one. (After making your initial evaluation)

Render the same file again and the next highest merit decoder
should be used, play the file and make your evaluation.

Remove that one and keep trying them until the file won't render.

Or - -You could just get a DirectShow filter manager, then you
could adjust the merit settings also.

Luck;
Ken
