Friends - I thoughtlessly unchecked the save location dialog box that pops
up when you save an attachment, so now I no longer have the choice where the
attachment goes. How do I get this choice box back? Thanks you, GB

Hi GB :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but, try the following as it
may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

Save Target As and Print Target Commands Are Unavailable
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#SaveTarget
How to Change the Default "Save As" Location in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default...-US%3BQ258867&
How to Change the Default SaveAs Location in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default...N-US%3BQ258867

also………

If you download as “Save Target As” it uses a the following Registry Key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Value of Download Directory

To change the Save location -

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value of SaveDirectory
or....

To change the default folder to which Internet Explorer will save items, you
must change the value for Personal in the following registry keys to specify
the new location:
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

also....

You can download TweakUI from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstat...g/NTTweakUI.asp
The tab you are looking for is called My Computer and the lower area has a
location of special folders option.

For XP
http://www.webattack.com/get/tweakuixp.shtml

Restore download prompt:

Go to Windows Explorer (Not IE) Tools>Folder Options>File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit (or Advanced, depending on your Windows version).
Check the box for "Confirm open after download".
You should then get the "Open or Save" dialog for each download.

The path to Folder Options may vary in your OS. Check the following:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

If still no joy, then try resetting the Internet Default settings:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security and click the Internet Icon and click
the Default settings button, close IE and see if that helps.

Hope this helps.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.
