Hi, I had a couple of files to transfer from a 3.5 floppy. As happens once in
a while it couldn't read that portion of the disk. So on my win xp pro
machine I ran CHKDSK since SCANDISK no longer exists. (BAD MOVE MS) It found
no problems. So I put the disk in old reliable, a win 98se machine ran a full
SCANDISK, it found and corrected errors. File retreived.
Am I missing something with CHKDSK? Does CHKDSK even do a surface check.
Any enlightenment would be great.
Thanks,
Rick

"Does CHKDSK even do a surface check."

If you ask for one: My Computer > right-click on the drive in question >
select Properties > select the Tools tab > Error-checking - Check Now button
> checkmark in 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'.

Think how much simpler it would be if, instead of "Scan for and attempt
recovery of bad sectors", the caption said something like "Check the surface
of the drive". <g>

Then you would get people posting here wanting to know what
"Check the surface of the drive" means. <grin>

Cheers,
