When CHKDSK (Scan disk ) is finished,it request that you
wait until Windows restarts---it never restarts. I always
have to shut off the power to the computer, and then turn
the computer back on. It has never restarted on its own.

Cliff;

That is the way it works.
YOU have to reboot the computer to get Error Checking (chkdsk) to
run. It is NOT automatic.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Wesley,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do reboot the computer, and
run ChkDsk, and successfully. However, when ChkDsk is
finished, it tells me to wait for windows to restart---it
never does. I have to turn off the power to the computer
( the power button on the computer does not respond, I
have to pull the plug), and then manually restart the
computer.

So, the problem is: when Chkdsk is finished, the computer
locks-up.

Cliff;

I misunderstood you.

Try this:
Right click the Desktop | Properties | Screen Saver tab |
Power button | Advanced tab | When I press the power
button on my computer: | Shut down | Apply | OK | OK
