During the character based portion of startup when chkdsk
checks the drive after a dirty shutdown (or if it just
feels like it), it may report that it has made changes to
the disk. In one case it reported a folder entirely
unreadable and I manageded to see it before it disappeared
and was able to restore the missing files in that folder.
There is no 'autochk" entry in either Application or
System logs. There are "disk" entires in the system log
reporting a bad block and a manual chkdsk reveals one bad
cluster but I have had that bad cluster since day one.
Is there a switch I can add to autocheck during startup to
report it's findings or a way to capture screen output
from the pre GUI chkdsk?
