I'm using Windows XP Home SP2. Try as I might, Windows will NOT check
drive C: if I schedule it to check when the PC is next rebooted. It
checks ALL other partitions with no problem.
I have in the past got messages similar to 'Cannot open volume for
direct access' when trying to check C:, but at the moment it doesn't
even say that - NO error messages are displayed and the C: drive is not
checked at all.
In my registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, the
BootExecute string value contains the following:
autocheck autochk /p \??\C:
autocheck autochk *
If I schedule checks for other drives, these also appear in this key -
but obviously get removed once the drives have been checked on reboot.
The only way I can currently run a CHKDSK on my C: drive is by booting
into the Recovery Console using my Windows CD, which is a complete pain!
I know I can install the Recovery Console on my C: drive so I will do
that, but if anyone knows how to fix this problem, PLEASE let me know
'cos it's really annoying!
Thanks in advance.
