I'll be soon getting a new Dell laptop with WinXP.
Not ever used XP.
What is its equivalent way to do Win98's "scandisk"?

The equivalent is "error-checking"
Right click your hard drive in My Computer.
Right click, and select properties.
Select the Tools tab.
You'll see Error checking and Defragmentation.
The error-checking, after you click check now, gives you two options.
"Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery
of bad sectors"

It does a good job, although something like Norton's System Works is a lot better.

>XP will not do a scandisk when running. You will have to

setup "schedule" ie (startup) exc. Do this in the tools
section. It will auto do a scandisk at power failure or
reset.

As I have System Works I would like to know how It's disk checking is better
than the Windows method. Having used both methods it seems to me that they
both use the same checking tool.

Richard.
