I was getting errors that suggested I had a disk error.Went looking for
scandisk.it told me to use chkdsk.

ran it and then when it came back [real sloooowly] it would only come back in
the admin account.

The problem's fixed now, and whatever it was that did fix it was more or less
just a repeat of the gyrations I'd already been using. change how to logon,
change password for my account [once I found it that was a real pain], tweakui
to remove passwords, change passwords etc.

Before I ran chkdsk there was no hint of any trouble with my account. If chkdsk
did find any troubles, it didn't tell me about them.

Is this a known error ? And if so, is there a step by step on how to redo in
this less than an hour of hit and miss troubleshooting ?
This admin account was useless before, it's only slightly less useless now. it
actually saved mouse settings for me.
I can only assume it may actually save any settings I make for that account
now.

I've not heard of that specific situation but it's reasonable to assume that
a disk error could cause loss of security data as well as any other kind.
Chances are that the disk error rather than scandisk caused the loss of data.
Scandisk repairs disk errors. However, perhaps you could think of it a bit
like repairing a crack in a concrete sidewalk: your sidewalk may be even but
you may also lose the name you wrote in the concrete when it was first laid.

I have no idea what actually fixed it cause I was just trying the most logical
things change password, create password, remove passwords, and when I tried to
add me as an account, it wouldn't cause that account already existed but XP
couldn't see it.

Sounds like my hard drive problem. I have 2 old 7 and 9 gig hard drives with a
165 gig sata. the small ones aren't recognized by the system until I install
VIA raid tool.
