hi im running chkdkks on my drive e using /f /r /x
it gets to stage 4 and freezes at 0%

is there any way to get around this? if not is there a better disk
repair tool available (done a search on download.com and got loads of
backup tools but no chkdsk replacements)

Run the drive manufacturers diagnostic utility on the drive and see if
there is a problem.

Another option is to run chkdsk from the recovery console. Never run chkdsk
without having a full and complete backup of important data. Unfortunately
data corruption can occur, and generally it's not reversible. Of course you
should always have a full and complete backup.
