Hi There:

I have having some difficulty getting XP installed completely on a Compaq
Presario F700 (F750US to be precise). This laptops only ships with Vista so
Compaq didn't have downloads for XP. Their tech support guy gave me some
stuff & I found others on the internet. I've got everything working except
for the wired Ethernet and the Compaq buttons. The video and chipset driver
from Compaq did not work at all but I found something close on the internet.

Vista said I had an nVidia GeForce 7000M/nForce 610M but Compaq's driver
would not install. I found something for the GeForce 7050/Nvidia nForce 610i
from nVidia and it installed. The video works but not the wired Ethernet
port.

The only problem devices in devmgmt is the "Ethernet Network Controller" and
1 "Unknown device".

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Steve, you could try www.nvidia.com and look for drivers for your
particular Chipset.
TO GET ETHERNET:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_...p2k_14.10.html
1) extract files
2) install manually through device manager

I take it your using the integrated NIC? If you are I believe that machine uses
RealTek drivers which can be downloaded from:

Hi Steve - I just bought the F750US for someone and am frustrated at
the lack of driver support. I got everything working but the sound and
modem.
How did you get them working? Any help is appreciated.

Since your network card isn't working because it lacks the proper
driver, you best solution would be to use a friends PC to go to the
HP/Compaq website and download the drivers. Then just copy them to a
USB memory stick or onto a cd or whatever, then just use that on your PC
to install the drivers.

If you're not smart enough to find your info yourself, then
you're not smart enough for anyone to tie themselves up
IMing with you.
