Chessboard when play games with a cracked 9800SE

Hi, Everyone.
I bought a Radeon 9800SE (which is 9800core but with only 4 rendering
pipelines enabled). It is easy to download the patched ATI driver to
enable the rest 4 pipelines. Everything is okay but when I play games,
if there is fog in the game scene, the card will display chessboard on
it.

Anyone have any idea or suggestions?
Thanks.

Those symptoms are familiar to anyone who followed the many posts about
modding a 9500 to a 9700 a year or so ago. A certain number of cards have
one or more defective pipelines. Enabling them creates checkerboarding, and
there's nothing you can do to fix it.

I could be wrong, and you might want to search the tweaking forum at
www.rage3d.com to see if there is another diagnosis or cure.

The problem I had was checkerboarding without the softmod. I put it
down to a bust pipeline and sent it back (every 4th block was
corrupted)

Thanks for you guys help!
I will try the following methods to see if it can solve the checkerboarding problem:
1. Down grade the core/mem speed
2. Adjust the voltage of the AGP slot
3. Change from AGP 4x to 2x or 1x

I'll post the results here.
