Checksum - programs generating errors (OE, IE, Opera)

I'm getting message boxes that say "Opera has generated errors.......an
error log will be created." Its doing it with Opera, Outlook Express (I
can't open messages with OE - it says there isn't enough memory yet I've
got 768mb and Task Manager shows no significant memory usage), and
Internet Explorer. Another message mentioned Checksum error.
Suggestions? Its quite crippling.
