I had never used system restore on my 3 year old system until 22 August 2007.
I used it then with the help of technical assistance. Now I would like to try
to restore to a point before 22 August, but when I search for a date I cannot
go back before the last restore. Suggestions, please?

Going so far back is not likely to be a good idea and if you don't have
the restore points that won't be possible.

He doesn't say how many restore points there are. He wanted to go back
before one created for him on 22 August. Anything else is speculation.
