Hello,

Ive been having a problem with the secondary disk on my laptop. I
installed a disk instead of the dvd drive on the laptop. It is working
fine, however, when I restarted the computer in the morning, there was
a message that the disk must be checked for consistency. On the event
viewer, there is a message:
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please
run the chkdsk utility on the volume D:.

The check was donde and no error were found. This is the result of the
check

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is Data.

WARNING! F parameter not specified.
Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)...
File verification completed.
CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)...
Index verification completed.
CHKDSK is verifying security descriptors (stage 3 of 3)...
Security descriptor verification completed.

97675168 KB total disk space.
57486412 KB in 3498 files.
1440 KB in 171 indexes.
0 KB in bad sectors.
134108 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
40053208 KB available on disk.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
24418792 total allocation units on disk.
10013302 allocation units available on disk.

Any ideas on what is this problem and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

If the problem continues to occur, then try this little utility "Sync":
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb897438.aspx

Create a folder on your primary hard drive and
copy sync.exe to it, Example: C:\Util\sync.exe

Then create a shortcut to it on your desktop.
Just prior to shutting down the PC double click
on the "Sync" shortcut, you will see a command window
open up and flush the drive(s). If you look closely you
should see the drive letter for the second drive displayed.

Then shutdown the PC.

That's interesting. Is that something that must be done with each
shutdown going forward, or just the one time? It sort of sounds like
something that needs to be done each time?

Could the root problem be the jumper setting for the drive? I'm just
curious; it's something I never considered before.

TWayne

It was something I used from years ago and have kept up the habit
of using it prior to shutdown.

Flushes any cached data to the hard drive before shutting down.
Also seems to eliminate the check disk problem that may occur on bootup

Sounds like a good candidate for a shutdown script.

Thanks,

Twayne
