Hello,

I would like to set up Outlook 2007 to automatically check for new e-mail
messages while I the Outlook program is closed. Many times I receive e-mails
and not even realize it until days later. I know that notification can be
displayed, however these only work while Outlook is open. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

Well, some program is going to have to be running to check for emails.
Either do a google for "email notifier" and trust whatever you find to be
left running, or let Outlook get on with it.

You have two choices...

1) Run Outlook but turn on the option to hide outlook when minimized. This
option means the only visible reference you see to Outlook is its icon
parked in the system tray. (When Outlook is running right click on the icon
in the system tray and then pick Hide when minimized.)

2) Find a freeware/shareware tool that can poll your POP3 mailbox every so
often and give you a visual que something is there. (There are many, happy
Googling)
